GM awards billions in information technology contracts
EDS, IBM, and HP gain lion's share
GM said it plans to spend approximately $15
billion on information technology over the next five years.
About half that amount was awarded Thursday in five-year contracts,
for everything from vehicle design systems to manufacturing support
to global supply chain management.

After many years of development, low-cost wireless technology for
goods and materials tracking will soon become widespread.
Beginning next year major retailers and their suppliers
will begin using radio frequency identification (RFID) tags on a
regular basis, according
to CIO Magazine. RFID is also being use by the U.S. Department
of Defense and
for security purposes.
Recently, RFID was also used in the badges of the
recent SXSW Conference in Austin.

Austin starup gains seasoned CEO in Welch
Wireless Valley Communications
(WVC), pioneering creator os software for rapid engineering
and management of wireless networks, has snatched seasoned CEO,
Jim Welch, from nearby software tools company Metrowerks. There,
Welch led the company's growth and expansion into new markets after
the company was acquired by the Motorola Semiconductor Products
Sector in 1999 in an acquisition organized by then CEO David
Perkins. Matt Harris, who came to Metrowerk's with their acquisition
of Embedix, will succeed Welch at that company.
WVC founder Ted Rappoport says,

released by Bitpipe Inc. and Sam Whitmore's Media Survey (SWMS),
technologies companies will spend on average 45% of their marketing
budgets on online marketing in the new year, rivaling traditional
marketing avenues including print, direct mail, and telemarketing.
